What to do when you need medical treatment?

When you contact us, our team will help you by explaining your benefits and confirming that your treatment is covered by your Sanitas Global Care insurance policy. If you need it, we can also assist you with information on hospitals, clinics and specialists.

Take advantage of our “Direct Payment Service”, which gives us the opportunity to communicate directly with your hospital or clinic, to make sure you have everything you need, including authorisation before your treatment. If possible, we will reach an agreement to pay them directly, including medical fees, as well as all the costs corresponding to your medical treatment.

As a new member of Sanitas Global Care, you should have received two cards. If your plan offers cover in the United States, you must use the Geo Blue card, while the Sanitas Global Care card is for the rest of the world, including Spain.

FILING A CLAIM

How do you request reimbursement of expenses?

At Sanitas, we offer you a fast, easy process to request reimbursement. There is also the possibility of opting for direct payment.

The benefit of contacting us before your treatment is that we will do everything possible to make a direct payment to the medical providers. In that way, you will avoid all the administrative processes and, most importantly of all, you will not have to pay for the services.

You can request direct payment at usamed@bupalatinamerica.com.

In the USA, it is obligatory to request the management of direct payment.

However, for outpatient services, i.e. those which do not require prolonged hospitalisation, the local regulations do not allow us to make direct payments in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • United Arab Emirates
  • India
  • Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa

If you need reimbursement, please send us the following documents, depending on the medical treatment in question:

In the case of an illness

  • The reimbursement request form.
  • The bank transfer form.
  • The pathology report, in the case of surgery or biopsy.
  • All the original receipts/bills with detailed account statements.
  • Laboratory costs, detailing the analyses carried out and their costs.
  • Pharmacy costs, detailing all the drugs purchased and the corresponding medical prescriptions.

In the case of an accident

  • The reimbursement request form.
  • The bank transfer form.
  • All the original receipts/bills with detailed account statements and the corresponding medical prescriptions.
  • In the case of a nose injury, send the x-rays and the report from the emergency service where the patient was treated.
  • The report from the doctor who treated you (you must be attended to within 72 hours after the accident).
  • In the case of a motor vehicle accident, we will need the report from the authority informed of the case.

In the case of an illness or accident:

  • Send the request for reimbursement and the attached documents (no later than 180 days after the date of the service) to this email address: sanitas@bupalatinamerica.com
  • Reimbursements may take between 10 and 15 days from the day on which the transfer was sent, depending on the country and the currency.

Of course! At Sanitas, we have an Expert Opinion service (Second Opinion), which is available to anyone insured by us who has received a medical diagnosis of a serious, chronic or complex illness.

The Expert Opinion service offers you up to three renowned medical specialists, each of whom will review your case and give an opinion on the best treatment for your specific condition.
